Golf in  Bulgaria

Bulgaria's reputation as a fast developing tourism destination and real estate market has begun to attract the interest of the European golfing community. Currently three golf courses operate in Bulgaria and in a country the size of Bulgaria it is estimated that between 20 and 25 golf course complexes will eventually open. Taking into consideration that at least half this figure of projected golf courses are presently being designed or built, Bulgaria will be able to put itself on the world golf map by 2010. Because golf is not a native sport within Bulgaria, though its enthusiasts are growing, the three primary regions in the country which are being developed as golf destinations closely follow the regions which are of interest to tourists and foreign investors.

• Sofia Region - This region covers a 50-60 km radius from central Sofia.
• Black Sea Region - The northern part of Bulgaria's Black Sea coast (Varna) where three golf courses were designed by renowned golf legends such as Gary Player and Ian Woosnam. The southern part of the Black Sea coast also possesses excellent potential for development as a golf destination.
• Mountain Region - The region near Bansko and Razlog, where the first golf course is being built and four additional projects are underway that are located 10-15 min. from each other by car.
