  Skiing
  Sofia is ideally placed at the foot of  Vitosha Mountain and you can be up at the slopes in 30 min. You can use the Simeonovo cabin lift, or the chair lifts starting from Dragalevtsi. They take you up to Aleko from where you buy your ski pass and can use the other lifts. Night skiing is also available on the Vitoshko lale run.
  
  Golf
  There are two courses close to Sofia. The Ihtiman course, around 60km from Sofia. This golf course has a good green with 18 holes, swimming pool, clubhouse, riding stables and restaurant. Sofiaqs newest golf course is the St Sofia Golf & SPA, designed under the guidance of the PGA and opened Autumn 2004.

  Alexander Nevski Cathedral
  Named after St Alexander Nevski, a Russian Tsar who saved Russia from invading Swedish troops in 1240 and the patron saint of Tsar Alexander || , who was also reffered to as Bulgaria`s Tsar Osvoboditel.  The spectacular external golden domes were covered in gold leaf, donated by Russia in 1960 and have recently been regilded.
  
  Central Baths 
  The beautiful building of the city`s former mineral baths has recently escaped dereliction and subsequent destriction, and is now being paintstakingly restored to its former glory. The building housed one large pool and two separate wings for men and women with smaller mineral pools. It will now house the City Museum as well as a spa center.
  
  Boyana church
  One of Bulgaria`s most significant historical treasures, listed on the  UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.  Set amongst  tall old pine trees in the exclusive suburb of Boyana on Vitosha mountain, this quaint church dates back to the 11th century and it was built in three stages.
  
  Former Tsar`s Palace 
  Built in 1873, it was the residence of the ruling governor during the Ottoman occupation, with administrative offices and police headquarters on the lower floors.
  
  Ivan Vazov National Theatre
  The National Theater is one of the most ornate buildings in Sofia. The ornate main hall has an 850 audience capacity.
